What's to disrupt? Our corrupt & lazy unions & it's workers have managed to get the whole transport system shutdown for a week anyways....even though the rest of Europe still maintains fully their public transport network, even on Xmas day.
ATOC's official excuse btw is that it isn't profitable enough to run over the festive period. So that would mean apparently over the other 51 weeks/yr. they maintain an efficient, cost-effective & profitable network
I had a great trip into work myself today - a full 2 days before Xmas. My train was cancelled due to 'a fault on the train which cannot be rectified' ie no staff around to replace a widget or something. Then 1/2 an hour later at another station, bit closer to my destination - the bloke with the orange sign who waves it at trains to go (no idea what his title is, except he's on a darn good salary for doing that & gives the air of absolutely no stress in his life) promised us was another one due in 8 mins, to which the electronic sign concurred.
So we all queue up on the platform, watch the train trundle in with the front of it correctly saying Victoria as our destination - then watch it carry on right past us, not stopping. The bloke with the orange sign & Santa hat just laughed it off, saying the driver must have been in a hurry to get home for Xmas. Hilarious...to some. I'm still stuck on the office at 4.46pm as a result.
Does anyone know why it takes 8 Railway 'engineers' to operate one spade by the way? One bloke shovelling pebbles by the track, & 7 watching appears to be the norm - very odd.
