SEA_Tigger, as usual, is correct - this has been a law since several ugly incidents in the '80s, AFAIK. One of our UA pilots will read this thread soon enough and give us the skinny.
Regarding the 777 - yeah, it's got that much power and more. The "military" power reference was a term for full power with no afterburner (which, of course, the Triple does not have, only the military planes.) Those GE90 engines are the most powerful ever put on a passenger plane! In fact, when a 777 takes off, it does not even use 100% power - more like 90something%. It's an awesome machine.
