Taxi border bribe?
We were travelling through the Caucasus countries earlier this year, and had hired a taxi to take us from Gyumri, Armenia to Akhalakalaki, Georgia. The border crossing between the two countries was extremely remote, just a couple of shacks out in the middle of the meadows. We passed through the Armenian side with no hassle, but when we got to the Georgian side, the guards there took a long time looking through all our passports, noting stamps from Laos, Brazil, etc. Probably not every day that Americans come through either! There were four of us together, so the guards finally waved us through, but when our taxi driver went in, much shouting ensued. After about 5 minutes the driver had to come back out to the car and grabbed something out of the glove box; we assume he had to pay a bribe!
