We will prob at this point fly into IAD due to cost and time - and will not be going to the zoo straight form there so..

looks.like nicer hotels for less $$ are avaialble in Alexandria - is that accessible from public transit? The zoo has warned the P/lots will fill up for pabda viewing so we don't want to rent a car....and we use Public transit almost exclusively in the Bay Area so we are used to having to trek.
