As a 5*, this happens to me all the time. For personal travel, I usually rent a compact or, if I need NL, I'll rent a midsize & for business travel, I always rent midsizes & seem to get upgraded. My past 6 rentals (all after hitting 5*) I've gotten either Toyota Solaras (twice), Camry, Ford Expeditions (and that was after renting a midsize - but it was because it was the only Neverlost car they had left in PSP), or a Mazda 6 (twice).
I don't know if its luck or status, but either way, I'm not complaining!
