Short cab trips to Edison Park made easier on Cabbies

Of course they would rather have a fare all the way to Waukegan, but they are required to take you where you want. The trick is to tell the cabbie immediately upon entering that it is a short fare trip. They can get a "free to pass go" ticket from the cab stand monitor. This allows them to get immediately back into line at O'Hare and not have to wait in the taxi lot. This can actually mean more money for them if their next trip is a long one. Since we live just down the block from Zia's, we do this all the time. We have spoken with cabbies a number of times concerning the "short trip". We used to feel bad about such a short trip. Cabbies have then explained to us the "short trip" ticket, and now they are usually grateful that we have informed them and our cab trips are always very pleasant. Cabbies will only give you attitude if they have already left the curbside at O'hare without their "free pass".
