You are correct. Main reasons for boarding early as an A is to get Exit row on a long flight OR if you have a short connection (flight late or otherwise) you need to be in front to be first off. All A's can get a window or aisle and even usually 3 people can get seats together, at the back.

BUT it can be a bit more of a problem if lots fo preboarders - like flights to Orlando during school break.
