I've just tried and I can definitely find award availability for flights 'costing' in excess of the available miles in my account. Hitting continue on the flight list screen (after selecting available flights) then tells me I don't have sufficient miles.
If the site is just not finding flights then I guess it's because there really is no availability. You can either try more dates, choose another route, or give Flying Club a call to see when your seats might be available.
