I investigated some options and the following seems to be the most cost-effective. I am wondering if some of the experts could take a quick look at this and let me know if my logic makes sense within the VS rules - as an AA/US/UA flyer, the VS rules are very "foreign" to me, pun intended.

* Purchase one discount upper class tix for around $3400
* Convert 80,000 AMEX MR miles to VS Miles
* Purchase one Upper Class award on VS for 80,000 miles
* Continue wedded bliss

Does that work or are there any "gotchas" that I am missing?

Hi,

The strategy makes sense.

However,

(1) The discounted UC ticket will need to be purchased well in advance of departure ( 42 days for Z approx)

(2) Rewards will tend to be popular and may not be available for your flights.

Good luck!!
