I've had a French-based Amex Gold card for one year. It provides me with 1 mile per euro spent (1.4 mile per euro if spent with AFKL and some partners). These miles count towards Elite status (in other words, they are level miles). Miles are credited very quickly after the debt is paid (in my case, the invoice is settled on the 29th of each month, and the miles are credited on the 31st).

In addition the card provided me this year with 9000 extra level miles due to a certain number of promotions:
- 3000 miles for signing up;
- 5000 for sponsoring a new member;
- 1000 miles for agreeing to have my Orange cell phone bills charged to the card.

The only requirement for a French based Gold Amex is to hold a French bank account (no need for French residency).
