Petro-Points MC (Citibank)

Obviously off-topic but they do have flight and hotel awards.

Difficulties using Visa in previous experiences with Priceline, and more recently with Beyond Wireless (the latter being my exact actual address) have made me realize I have a MC-shaped hole in my portfolio.

One suggestion I was given, is the Petro-Canada Petro-Points ("PP") MasterCard. It's actually not a bad deal if you ever buy gas at PC.

2c/L off the price of gas, and 10PP/$ spent, in addition to whatever PP you might earn for buying gas. At $1/L that's a 2% immediate kickback (at 80c/L, 2.5%). If the alternative is Pioneer or another discounter, of course the actual saving is <2c/L. In addition, the PetroPoints can be redeemed for various things, including flights (150K, i.e. $15K spent, for a short-haul, 300K for long-haul, 650K+ for international, they don't say what airline it is or exactly what constitutes short-haul, nor what extra fees might be like) and hotel stays at a few cheapish chains.

But they also have a $25 amazon.ca GC for $3250 in spending, netting almost a penny a point. Added to the 2c/L I wonder if this isn't close to the 3% that an Aerogold Visa might be worth (and more than the 1-2% cashback cards produce).

Points can also be transferred to Presidents Choice and Sears Club accounts, and to CX AsiaMiles.

I usually end up at Pioneer, but there's a Petro-Canada that's perfectly positioned for me in some cases (near right corner, the only right-side gas station between me and the highway if I go out that way). I figure this no-fee card will be just the thing for stops there. I've had Petro-Points since it started and never redeemed, but only because everything seemed overpriced. If I'm stopping there for convenience, the 2c/L is pure profit.

Does anyone have experience with this card? Any other reasons to get it, or reasons not to?

And two other questions: (1) they talk about PayPass (not at my station) were you just touch the card to the reader, I really don't see the point of this since you have to get the card out anyway, and (2) why don't they sell 94 octane in Ontario? I don't need it but noticed it as an option on the "search for a station". None in Ontario but lots in Quebec and elsewhere. I know 94 is legal since Sunoco sells it.

Thanks!
