Anyone think it is worth just checking in to LON when flying Longhaul?

Ok, just pondering.

I am flying EDI-LHR then LHR-BKK tomorrow. OLCI wouldn't let me change my BKK seat so guess the flight must be chokka as usual.

I know that op-up's are a mystery as to how they are processed but I really feel that when I check in all the way through from EDI I lose the chance to be op-upp'd as it seems to be a low chance if flying from an out station.

Anyone ever tried just checking in to LHR, reclaim baggage, then head to the T1/4 J/F desks to check in for the longhaul. Then they can see if you are SFU.

Just a thought. Guess I should go and start packing.
