As a GM with Delta my upgrade % through ATL was about 12%. I am going to be about 10,000 short of PM also and I am wondering if it is worth the money. Is 2 or 3 extra upgrades/year worth the money?

Maybe, I'm not so sure...
I flew my first ever mileage run on December 7 (TPA-ATL-SFO-ATL-TPA) and added an extra segment yesterday TPA-LGA-ATL. I'll hit 75,102 MQMs to earn PM status on my last paid flight of the year tomorrow. Of 5 flights eligible for upgrades, I cleared on exactly zero segments. The interesting thing is that on at least 4 of my 5 flights, I was in the top 3 for the gate upgrade lottery. If I had been Platinum already, I'm sure I would have cleared on at least 3 of the flights (the SFO-ATL flight was really full up front - I think one PM cleared at the gate).

So I think that a mileage run is worth it in this case (mine only cost me an extra $229 and a client an extra $60). Especially now that PM on Delta is 75,000 miles, there will be a lot more PMs out there (like me - I would have made 75,000 miles for PM last year, but ended up being Gold).
