Kudos to Horizon, Alaska and Pacific Coastal!

I kept meaning to post something about this, but life got busy!

We had a flight from YYJ-SEA-DFW Oct 24, returning Nov 5. YYJ and SEA had heavy fog that morning and sure enough, our Horizon Air flight was delayed and then cancelled (the plane was stuck in SEA). The Horizon ticket agent was very busy but very efficient (although we didn't see why we had to get our checked bags before she would talk to us about solutions...???) and called over to Pacific Coastal Air, to see if they had room for us on a flight to YVR, which was not experiencing the same fog. All their flights were full, but they said they could probably find a plane, fly over from Vancouver and create an additional flight number for a return trip to YVR, if Horizon could find a minimum number of passengers. The agent checked quickly with others and confirmed that they could probably fill the plane, so she told the PC people to go ahead and send the plane over. She then got us booked on a non-stop AA flight out of YVR to DFW. We ended up getting into DFW a couple of hours late, but we were so relieved to make it the same day even!

We were very impressed with the quick decision-making and the casual and yet efficient relationship between the Horizon front-end staff and the Pacific Coastal people. There was no endless calling of supervisors, just people who were empowered to do a job and make some decisions, and could do so with a high degree of support and co-operation even across company lines. We were very grateful to both companies!

On our return flight from DFW to SEA, we were going against a strong headwind and the pilot let us know we were going to get in late. The FC FA made a point of checking with us as she knew from her print-out that we would be connecting in SEA. She realized that we would have to get from A concourse (?) over to the South Satellite pretty quickly and wanted to make sure that we knew how to do that. We assured her we did, but thanked her for taking the initiative!

And a bit off topic, what is it with that disgusting snack box that AA offers (and actually charges people for)????
