Like in other countries, the U.S. has a rich history of political extremists attempting to use fear in conjunction with muddled lies and half truths as a tactic to get what they want. That is the case here.

The TSA goes to great lengths to assure that when kids are screened, it is done with respect, and with a careful explanation of what will happen next, and why. While no one can assure you that you won't encounter a random bad apple, the odds are extremely high that you will find your children to be treated carefully and honorably. The most important thing you can do is provide a positive role model, since the emotions of young kids tends to mirror that of their parents.

You can also help by thinking ahead about what they are wearing, since the more metal they wear on their clothing and accessories, the more they will have to either take off, or if that isn't possible, the more likely they will require hand wanding to clear the inspection.
