Seeing the MEL thread has reminded me of this topic. My wife went to school in SYD (but from HK originally) and she winces every time someone pronounces MEL as "Melborn" rather than the Aussie way of "Melbun". I never noticed it until she pointed it out and sure enough 75% of the people I hear (including TV presenters, commentators, etc) all pronounce it "Melborn". Guess it is our equivalent of "Li-cester Square" or "Edinberg"!

Any other places with tricky pronounciations?
