They just cheerfully hand you a piece of paper to sign acknowledging that you've been there (with number of guests, if applicable) and you're in.
My mom was initially refused at the SAN Delta club. She stood her ground until the rep was able to "confirm" that they were, indeed, participating. Otherwise, I've been treated very well by all club staff on each visit. Some loungeshave you fill out a sign-in sheet rather than a receipt form.
