Unhappy Date change and now no eticket number - what happens at checkin?

I am having BIG problems trying to get expedia to understand what revalidating an eticket means. I have a full fare o/w WT+ ticket purchased for the other half through them (as BA wanted to issue a paper ticket and charge me £40 for the priveledge) that I have changed twice. The problem seems to be that the front end expedia staff are not properly GDS trained and instead use some sort of web portal to do basic tasks. They can change a date on a flexible ticket, but essentially they are just doing the easy bit (the hold) and it is then sent off to their ticketing department who, I assume, have a clue. This however, takes ages and no amount of explaining seems to be able to speed it up, they just dont get it (your date is changed sir).

After the first change, the eticket number disappeared from checkmytrip.com and reappeared about 3 hours later. The second change I made yesterday, eticket number disappeared again but this time it hasn't returned as clearly they have yet to revalidate it.

Problem is, OLCI opens in a few hours and as we all know I will get the "your booking has not been completed by your travel agent" message. BUT, and this is what is really scaring me, if the muppets don't get it done before departure, what happens at checkin? can the ticket desk revalidate a TA booking or will he be denied boarding? I will be livid if the former... especially as the flight is already zeroed out in W and Y.

any experience?
