I would call the international 1k line and change it. It is always better to get the confirmed upgrade on a different flight than it would be to waitlist. The seats may reappear later on but if you really want the C seat and there is availablity, I would go where you can confirm now.
Is the 1k International Line any different than international reservations and entering my MP number? I have had really bad luck with reservation agents when trying to sort out an upgrade problem for this same itin (on the return). I am dreading the call to reservations to try to get things changed for fear of the things they screw up.
