Thanks - good to know that esp. as I hadn't realized that I wouldn't pick up UA miles on some NZ fare classes (I am too used to flying UA).
As a follow up: does anyone have any thoughts about the best carrier across the Tasman (service, planes, economy pitch etc)? I really was thinking of NZ but maybe worth experiencing Emirates or Thai ...
