Thank you!
This is really good information to have.....and I really appreciate it. I had not come across the information, and. it is certainly important. As for not shipping pets cargo (earlier post)......it is pretty much the only option for anything larger than a poodle. I know what it is like to be a total spaz in regards to shipping your dog. I bought a Full-Fare First Class ticket when on Air Canada once, in order to get priority baggage handling, etc.......too bad when the agent saw me with a dog she assumed that I was just a schmuck and treated me like crap anyway.
Im a crewmember for UA, and its our policy to always keep cargo heat on, in the event that a pet is put onbaord without cockpit notification.
To all those who may be shipping thier pet. PLEASE do not feel shy about letting the crew know about having a pet onboard. Even ask to speak with the Captain briefly if the flight attendant seems disinterested (although I have never witnessed this).
You would not believe how much the crew cares about the kids 'below'. We go to great lengths to make sure that all parties are 'clued' in.
THREE statements that you should make to the crew when boarding:
1) Please let the captain know that I have a pet onboard.
2) Please ask the captain to verify that CARGO HEAT is on.
3) Give your seatnumber/name to forward to captain. WRITE IT DOWN!
Good luck to all the pooches out there!
