Surprising development! I've been checking the Marriott website every day since beginning this thread, and last night it paid off. All of a sudden Standard Award rooms were available for the week that I wanted. I called the reservation number, and they were happy to make the change.

I apologize to Mr. Marriott for every negative thought I ever had about his company.
