Okay, the additional info helps a bit.
So your needs are as follows:
- Broadband
- Wireless phone
- The ability to make a lot of U.S. calls that the legacy telcos would describe as "long-distance"
My gut feel is that the cheapest option will come down to (a) going totally wireless for voice service and buying naked DSL like Scott suggests, or (b) sticking with the cheapest wireless plan you need for actual mobile calling, buying naked DSL or cable broadband, and switching to VoIP.
Kind of depends on your mobile calling volume, your home calling volume, your volume of home long-distance, and your international calling if applicable.
In any case, I don't see how a traditional landline can beat VoIP - they simply pack in too many bogus fees, plus taxes on top of the fees.
