Delta Air Lines offered its pilots an eight-year contract on Tuesday with a complex performance formula that would align future raises with company profits.

The company said its proposal would increase pilot salaries an average of 17.5 percent until May 2003, when pilots' salaries would be adjusted every two years based on Delta's financial performance.

A union spokesman said pilots were leery of the proposal.
