Tier point from a re-routed AA flight?

I'm flying DCA-YYZ today through LGA on a Y fare on AA. The flight from DCA-LGA had mechanical problems, so they offered me a choice to fly through ORD (which would get me into YYZ 2.5 hours later than originally planned), or put me on Air Canada for their direct flight.

I chose the direct AC flight. Is there any way that I can get the EC to credit me the 40 points I would have received had they not re-routed me?
