The Central Park North (110 St) stop at Malcolm X Blvd (Lenox Av) on the 2/3 train is even closer (basically across the street) if you're coming from the west side. From the east side, the 1/2/3 buses up Madison Av all stop there.
Thanks monster, I had forgotten about those! I live pretty much at the Northwest corner of the park so tend to be a little B/C centric.
And I certainly agree that the North end of the park is beautiful. My German Shepherd loves her early morning off-leash walks around the meer and in the woods West of Lasker Rink. It's such a sharp contrast to the surrounding city.
