My card never was suspended, but I had some problems with payments in the first few months. The first month I tried to pay approx. EUR 3000, and this was declined. I had to contact Amex and let my banker send a signed paper mentioning I was good for this amount. After that I spoke to them before a larger purchase of about $ 30000. They needed another signed paper from my banker, and after that it was no problem at all.

On the Amex information papers it is mentioned that when you are going to spend a larger amount than usual, you better can contact them before.

I also heard that the spendinglimit is about 1,5 times the spending of the months before, so even without the other card, I can understand their situation. When you normally spend $ 1k, then your limit is about $ 1.5k
