I had a weird lav experience on WN. Being a thimble-bladder person who gets in the A line an hour before the flight, I usually have to pee by the time we board when I travel alone, since I can't leave the line. Thus, I stake out my seat and then dash to the lav during boarding. As I started to enter, a FA told me it was inoperable but that it would start working while we were airborne. ??? Indeed, we were able to use the lavs while in the air, above a certain height. The FAs said it has something to do with the mechanics of how the flushing works, but it sounded stange to me.
I can see how it could be--it could require a different pressure inside the cabin and outside in order to flush.
