Annoyed w/ AMEX [suspension]
I've been an AMEX cardholder since 1997 - the Plat Skymiles card. In July I got the Gold Rewards Card and have been semi-pleased. Til now...
Last month I charged $477.00 which is due by 12/13. Between the closing date of that statement and today, I have charged $1122.00 bringing to my total outstanding balance up to $1599.00. (Note: the $1122.00 is not technically due til 1/13/06.)
I logged on today to make a $600.00 payment (*MORE* than what I owe this billing period) and found my account to be "suspended." When I called they informed me that I needed to pay the ENTIRE amt ($1599.00) before I could charge again. I noted to them that I would be paying more than my current billed due and wouldn't that allow me to atleast make a few minor charges? - answer: no. They want the full $1599.00 right now. Fine, I'm paying it by Friday but I find it annoying. I know they manage risk in certain ways but this is absurd. *Note: Since I have had this Gold Card I have paid IN FULL (as required) every month and my balances have run close to, but not really over, $1000.00.
On a side note- AMEX said "but don't worry, next month you'll be able to charge approx. $2200-2300 without being suspended - 1.5x your current max billed". ...???? Is that supposed to make me feel better?
