Gold--->Silver: Can you buy lounge access?

Hi,

I did a search but no luck. I am now Silver after being downgraded from the Citi Chairman Gold promo. I have two rewards stays coming up at the ATH Hilton. One was booked as a Silver and one booked back when I was Gold (I asked kindly for upgrade/lounge access at the comment section). I do have my Gold card showing expiration in 2007. In a previous stay as a Silver (booked as Gold) I was given the "I have to go by what my computer system tells me Sir" treatment and got no Gold benefits at all (no big deal), my Gold card meant nothing.

I do not care much about upgrade but I would LOVE to get lounge access at the ATH Hilton. How can I maximize my chances to get it complimenarily? If they don't give it to me can I offer to purchase Lounge access? I never heard of this, is it possible? If yes, how much does it cost/how much do I offer?

Thanks for any input you may have.
