I don't understand what Westin gains from this. Having a smoking floor certainly can't bother us non-smokers because we won't be on that floor. Why not allow people who smoke (about 20-25% of the population) to have floor and a room where they can smoke. It's OK to not allow it in the lobby or restaurants, but the entire hotel? jeeze

I don't understand why it seems like smokers have become lepers in the US. Strange and unfair.
If smokers didn't stink up the areas they've been, nobody would care. But the customes DO care because they are sick and tired of the stench. Smoke stinks up the furniture, curtains, carpets. Many hotels have floors in which smoking is allowed by room, not by floor. So the hallways also have a stench. In an article in the WSJ a few days back, the writer captured what was happening at Westin properties. They were "fumigating" the rooms, halls, all locales in which smokers were present. "Fumigating".....'nuff said.

And it was all market driven. The customers demanded it. Wow, this is great to see.
