It appears you are going to KOA, and returning from LIH, while connecting through HNL. So why not just do open jaw on a United award to KOA and return from LIH. You will still need to get from KOA to LIH, either with the 5000-mile award, or a one-way ticket.

That will save you 5000 * 2 miles.
