Of course you shouldn't leave anything visible, but some people make a habit of breaking into (or attempting to break into) car trunks. Apparently, it's a worthwhile enterprise for them.

That's the best advice. ^ ^ ^

Our company recently had laptops stolen in LA when somone watched them put the bags in the trunk before they entered the building to visit a client. One broken side window and they popped the trunk.
Not to belabor the point ( ), but regardless of whether anyone sees you put things in your trunk or not, there are people who make a habit of breaking into car trunks....
