I found myself several months ago defending DL after they deducted many points from a SM or GM who wasn't asked for a SWU when flying back to the US from Europe. I suggested that the practice may be necessary because of some folks abuse the SWU "upgrade-when-booking" ability to circumvent the shorter advance times for SM and GM upgrades. Alas, on a recent trip, I was one of the guilty.

I truly did leave the SWU upgrades on my desk in the office. As a result, I was forced to re-book with points and may have kept someone else from legitimately booking an upgrade.

Hopefully with the changes to SWUs, DL will stop sending them to us and just keep them in the records. It will avoid this problem in the future.
