It can be quite infuriating, though, as the distances listed in the AA PDF timetable are often very misleading in this regard, (giving the total point to point miles for all sectors of a through flight, instead of the great-circle route for the origin/final destination)
For example, take AA-49 as listed in the November timetable:
CDG-SFO = 6404 miles (according to the PDF timetable)
CDG-SFO = 5583 miles (great circle distance)
Why the discrepancy?
CDG-DFW = 4944 miles (great circle)
DFW-SFO = 1460 miles (great circle)
CDG-DFW-SFO = 6404 miles (TOTAL, but not what you'll earn on the thru-flt.)
