Hobson's choice is in truth no choice. It is a take-it-or-leave-it situation, not one in which you have a choice between alternatives, albeit none greatly to your liking. If Hobson were alive today and in charge of the aircraft rather than managing a horse stable, he tell you to take the seat you have been assigned or don't board, because he wouldn't consider seating you anywhere else.
