I did, flew through ATL to DTW on my way to IAD. A bit longer, but I enjoy MRs anyway, and it cost $170 (about $200 less than DL at the time).
There was a period of time where you could book IAD/DCA-MKE rt on a majority CO ticket stock yet fly a majority NW itinerary, and yet one itinerary was entirely CO ticket stock and NW metal, and it would price out cheaper than flying on each airline on their own stock... I did fly DCA/IAD-EWR just to scope out EWR. I never could figure out the rationale (I GET IT but don't get it) but that's beside the point.
