Delta Shuttle Sets New Standard for Business Travel

Introduces Industry-leading Legroom Aboard New State-of-the-art 737-800; Delta Shuttle -United Way Flight Schools Mark First Flights

NEW YORK, Aug. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Delta Shuttle introduces to customers today its new Boeing 737-800, featuring industry-leading personal space -- 36 inches of seat pitch with six inches of recline. These features offer two more inches of legroom and recline than any other shuttle service. Flying the new Delta (NYSE: DAL - news) livery and an updated logo, Delta Shuttle ushers in a new standard for business travel, offering comfort and reliability.

The 737-800 fleet will greatly enhance the customer's experience. The aircraft are equipped with new, ergonomically-designed seats that feature four-way adjustable headrests, the most legroom of any shuttle service with 36-inch pitch, battery-saving Empower(TM) system for laptop computers, new AT&T easy-access telephones, and seatback hooks for hanging jackets. The cabin also provides 30 percent more overhead bin space, designed to more easily accommodate standard roller bags used by many business travelers. Delta Shuttle's new fleet of 16 state-of-the-art Boeing 737-800 aircraft will feature Delta's new livery. Delta Shuttle will add three of the new aircraft each month starting in September and all 16 will be integrated into daily service by January 2001.

The new Delta Shuttle fleet also supports Delta's commitment to the environment and the communities it serves. The 737-800 Stage III aircraft noise footprint at 70 decibels is one-twelfth of the Delta Shuttle's current B-727-200 noise footprint. Additionally, the new aircraft also burns 35 to 40 percent less fuel than the current aircraft during a typical Delta Shuttle flight.

To mark the occasion, Delta Shuttle is partnering with local United Way agencies in Boston, New York City and Washington, DC to host its first-ever Flight Schools this week. Fifteen students in each city will learn ``the principles of flight'' from Delta Shuttle's chief pilot, as well as have exposure to career opportunities in travel and aviation from Delta professionals such as flight attendants, aviation maintenance technicians and airport customer service agents. Then, the groups from Boston and New York City will take one of the new aircraft's first flights to Washington, D.C., where they will tour the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum. The group from Washington, D.C. will fly to New York City where they will tour the Intrepid Air Sea Museum.
