A question came in while I was drafting my previous answer.

Yes, the new plane is definitely quieter than the old ones. I'm sure that was one of Delta's motivations, along with one fewer pilot and better fuel efficiency.

Also, I have no idea why the plane is being used on LGA-DCA. That's just the route I fly most of the time. I make a couple of trips a year to Boston, but many many many to DC. The DC flights are often full. I wonder what the smaller seating capacity will mean with regard to flying extra sections (unscheduled flights needed to handle passenger load).

Interestingly, I checked on the details of yesterday's flight 1758 on Delta's website. It shows the correct departure and arrival times and gates, but lists the plane as a 727. Obviously, that's wrong; it was a Shuttle version of the 737-800.
