As a SG or WP you won't be charged a rebooking fee. This is exactly what I did a few months ago. You will have the initial 2,500 fee however ...
As a SG, QANTAS have hassled date changes for me on awards, saying that they cannot be changed if they are not on QF metal.
Is changing dates an issue with QF awards that does not exist with OneWorld awards?
In one case the issue was an impending death in the family, and QF said we will be happy to change our flights but the AA flights (QF codeshare I believe) cannot be changed because AA do not allow it. I called AA who said it was not a problem from their perspective, and got a name. When I called QF back they then agreed to do it. I was never convinced that the problem was anything other than a QANTAS policy on changes to award bookings on codeshares.
