From Vancouver to Bangkok via TPE in March it waitlisted both YVR-TPE, TPE-YVR and asked for 100.000 miles in economy (150.000 miles peak season).
Tried the same on Star Alliance, confirmed all flights and that would take only 75.000. Quite a big difference.
Yeah, it's very difficult to redeem an award tickets from EVA and redemption mileage requirement is very high!
Therefore, I only use my Evergreen mileages for upgrades. The required mileage for upgrades are pretty high but at least I can confirmed the upgrades at time of booking with wide range of class fares. ^
Any Taiwanese here has the new American Express EVA AIR Platinum charge card? Regular AMEX Platinum charge card costs NT$20,000 in Taiwan and AMEX EVA Plat.card costs $8,000 more. However, you get two complimentary electronic upgrade certificates (equals a maximum of 90,000 or a minimum of 30,000 Evergreen mileage points) and some other bonus benefits such as Evergreen Laurel (First Class/Diamond card) Lounge access, First class checkin, fast track airport service and 4 one way limousine transport from Taipei to TPE or vice versa.
