Backstreet was my "coming out" bar. I'd say, reflecting on other bars, Backstreet was a one of a kind and an excectional gay bar. I remember my first foray into the place back in 1993. I was so nervous and debated what to wear over and over again. Naturally, unbeknowst to me, it was underwear night which was a little frightening for a first time out at 21!
