I just remembered another good taxi company - MK Taxi - which I will add to the list in my original post. I took an "MK taxi" with three friends the other day (four passengers total) and found myself sitting up front with the driver. You can identify "MK taxi" because... well because they're black taxis with an "MK" logo.

The level of service was impeccable. The driver knew exactly what he was doing - but in case of routes that he didn't know, his car was equipped with navigation equipment. The driving was smooth and comfortable - the car was super-clean and fresh smelling (which is sadly not always the case with taxis). At the end of the trip, the driver came around to my side of the cab and opened the front passenger door for me before assisting the folks in the back with their bags. Very high standards - and clearly the result of corporate policy. So "MK Taxi" gets a gold star.
