Much more succinctly put - but this is what I'd like JR to do

-----------------------------
Effective December 10
The Nagano Shinkansen will become entirely non-smoking + several limited express trains that includes the NEX.
Ashtrays will be removed from the vestibule areas of all JR East
shinkansen and express trains and these areas will be made
no-smoking.
The lounge cars and communal areas of the Hokutosei and
Cassiopeia sleeper trains will also be made non-smoking.
That's terrific news (although I'm almost sorry that Smokers don't even get one carriage they can reserve seats for in advance). I can't approve, but I do believe they should have the choice.
And thanks for posting the smoking/non-smoking proportions ^ That's satisfied my curiosity (and confirmed my suspicions!)
