Okay, it sounds insane. Perhaps that's because it IS insane.
But if you'll humor me...
Let's say that you had zero miles BIS/q-points in your AA account for 2005 (although you have, say, the ability to put 100,000 miles from credit cards, etc). And that you had two weeks of free time coming up. And that you are 'majestic 'enough is stature that coach isn't really your cup of tea (although the single side of an ERJ isn't so bad).
And let's say that you've got enough NW miles to get you most anywhere they fly in their system.
Given all that, what would you do?
My brain says that you start in BKK, and fly BKK-...-SJC four times, which should yield 100,000 q-points (assuming that you catch BKK-KIX-DFW-SJC a couple of time). Yes, I know, it's far from the best value in miles, but the business cabin appears to run about $2200 or so, with 12-18 hour layovers in SJC, a 9 hours each trip in Bangkok (which I'd spend wandering the airport or, hopefully, surfing the net and posting to FlyerTalk).
So the budget is, say, $10,000. Less is better, of course.
Me, personally, can shower and shave in SJC (home), but working with SJC isn't a dead-bang requirement; if MAD-MIA was the cheapest option, I could be two weeks on the road.
So now, if you are still reading, are you thinking
"he's not really thinking of doing this, is he...?" Or, perhaps,
"what a whack job!" ...
...the answer is, I just might. Chances like this don't often come up, and you have to admit, it'd make one heck of a story!
So I'd appreciate some thought on options -- perhaps routes I've overlooked -- maybe even domestic YUP routes?
