1st op-up last week IAD-LHR in 9 years flying UA, C-F. Just getting settled into 15 a/b and was told we had been "relocated" downstairs.We were on a D fare. On enquiring WHY we were shown 4,5 J, so was quite happy to move. I asked the steward why we had been upgraded ahead of 1k`s and he said that generally 1K`s pay for lower class fares. 1 other couple apeared also to be upgraded due to their informiliarity with the seat etc.
Flew SYD-SFO 3 days earlier on upgraded to F (miles deduceted at booking in June) miles have been re-aplied to account, so not sure if that counted as my first op-up ?

In any case UK-OZ in 1st makes th journey very easy.
