There is often a long layover in SE Asia on the outbound, although I think it's a very effective time to get started adjusting to the time. It makes things much more productive to get a real night's sleep and then a short journey in the morning.

On the way back, it's all one continuous trip with very short layovers and more convenient than FRA as you come home already tired from your trip. I suppose SFO-FRA-BLR-BKK-SFO might be best of all.

But yes, I very much enjoy the decompress in BKK.

I don't have kids, so the length of legs never mattered that much to me. Finally, my most important reason for traveling via BKK is that I can do almost the whole thing on UA metal with upgrades.

I would never, ever, ever, risk a longhaul in LH Y. Never. Ever.

Ever.
