Does anyone out there take flights out of a U.S. border city because the cost (air fare plus tax) is significantly cheaper than from the Canadian airport closest to where you live? Have you done it for a business trip? Have you done it for a pleasure trip?
I am writing a story for The Globe and Mail about a claim being made by Expedia.ca that fares from Buffalo to U.S. cities are cheaper than from Toronto to the same cities and that there is a “marked increase” in people from the GTA flying out of Buffalo.
Any experiences or comments on flying from any U.S. border city appreciated.

In the Detroit area -- for people who live in Ontario near the border -- about the only reason not to use DTW is the time it takes to cross the border at the tunnel or at the bridge and that's changed so much that since 9/11 the local radio stations give crossing times with the traffic reports.
I know of one case where someone was flying out of DTW and saw his wife's flight out of Windsor from the air !
