Oh well, hopefully tailwinds will be good . Haven't had to do a transcon in E- for a long time.
What about standing by for an earlier flight? Assuming your 5-hour flight is a trancon, have you considered breaking that into 2 segments? If no other option exists, I would have to opt for an E- aisle seat and hope for an E+ aisle/window seat opens up at the airport.

PS: Sometimes couples book into aisle & window seats with hopes of no one booking the middle seat, so you may be able to inquire about the possibility of such scenario at the time of check-in (based on passengers' last name). Obviously, most agents would balk at revealing such info because of privacy issues!
