After 2 years living at various Starwoods, it looks like I'm going to have to switch to a Marriott. It looks like Marriott gives you an option to earn points or miles. Is there any consensus on which is the better option? I live in the UK and will be mainly staying at European hotels for 3-4 nights at a time if that makes any difference.

Also, any idea on the likelihood of getting comped status right away as an SPG platinum?
